On June 23, American conductor Hobart Earle led the Odesa Philharmonic Orchestra, which he has served as music director since 1991, in the first-ever performance in Ukraine of Charles Ives’s Symphony No. 2. Before the performance in Odesa’s Philharmonic Hall, Earle read a translation of Leonard Bernstein’s comments about Ives and this symphony, which Bernstein had made to a Munich audience in the late 1970s or early 1980s.
